A promotional banner poster printed by Virgin Records to promote the October 1977 release of the Sex Pistols only studio album Never Mind The Bollocks, Here are the Sex Pistols in record stores. Despite the enduring controversy that surrounded the band, Rolling Stone praised the album as just about the most exciting rock & roll record of the Seventies.
British artist Jamie Reid has become synonymous with the Sex Pistols and pretty much defined the image of punk in the UK. His cut-and-paste aesthetic, featuring letters seemingly cut from newspaper headlines in the style of a ransom note, developed from his interest in radical politics. Reid designed this promo banner in the same dayglo yellow and pink colorway as the iconic album cover. An example of this banner poster is held in the permanent collection of the V&A Museum, London.
CONDITION Good (B) Backed on linen. The backing has smoothed and diminished three vertical folds, four partial diagonal folds and a minor ¼in. tear to upper edge. Some darkening to fold lines in places. A handful of surface scratches, the largest 3 in. through 'SEX'. Image and colors otherwise excellent.
